Amit’s journey throughout the past 29 years has taken him through the prestigious corporations of India like Greaves Cotton, Mahyco, SBICAPS, Larsen & Toubro, and Procter & Gamble. While assuming each position, he encountered challenges day in, and day out but also experienced his personal growth through governance and leadership education. He had an understanding right from the beginning that if one surfaces in law, it is not only by being technically sound but also by being able to weigh human understanding against the regulation. 

Amit as the Head – Legal and Company Secretary at NOCIL Ltd, practices that same belief throughout. NOCIL is a part of the Arvind Mafatlal Group (AMG) of Industries, a well-known Business House of India having diversified business interests. NOCIL has a rich legacy of over 50 years in the chemical industry, with over 40 years of rubber chemical expertise. The Company has emerged to be the largest rubber chemicals player in India today. He supervises all the functions of corporate legal, secretarial, and governance, and along with that, he also monitors the Sustainability, ESG, and CSR initiatives, which are the areas connecting the intention of being ethical with the real impact.

• Bagged the India Legal Award on February 8, 2024, at the General Counsel Vision and Innovation Summit and Awards 2024.

His career path through various companies brought him face to face with the whole range of the law, including civil, criminal, consumer, arbitration, competition, insider trading, and employment law. Mobility made his vision of governance through the lens of empathy and foresight even stronger. He frequently declares that the best legal protection is prevention and that his whole career is a testimony to this doctrine.

Outside the boardroom, Amit’s influence reaches the legal community through his writing. He is a passionate legal journalist whose articles have been published in Legal Era, Chartered Secretary, and Business Law Journal. His writing brings clarity to complex legal issues, turning technical subjects into engaging discussions that professionals and students can learn from. 

He has also authored two books, one on insider trading regulation and another on company law amendments. Both reflect his ability to translate intricate laws into relatable insights. For Amit, writing is not about displaying expertise; it is about sharing knowledge that empowers others to think critically and act responsibly. 

Commitment to Learning and Mentorship 

Amit’s success is strongly connected with his learning attitude. He is an ICSI Fellow Member and attains a law degree from Delhi University, and at the same time, he is still on the path of gaining more knowledge through professional certifications. He has successfully completed the certification courses conducted by the Institute of Company Secretaries of India ( ICSI) on ESG , Prevention of Sexual Harassement (POSH) , Intellectual Property Rights and Role of Independent Directors  to keep up with the changes in the corporate governance area. 

His mentorship also reflects the same attitude. His colleagues picture him as a peaceful, patient, and exemplary leader. Sometimes his meetings get over with legal advice that reminds the team to act wisely, considerately, and justly. Many professionals have been transformed into assertive leaders who are aware that honesty and productivity can go hand in hand.

He is of the opinion that governance is not to be looked at as a separate department but as the lifeblood of an organization.
