Manmohan Singh, Visionary Economist and Former Indian Prime Minister, Dies at 92

Manmohan Singh, a revered economist and India’s 14th Prime Minister, passed away at 92 in Delhi. Known as the architect of the 1991 economic liberalization, he played a pivotal role in transforming India into a global economic force.

As Prime Minister from 2004 to 2014, Singh spearheaded landmark initiatives like MGNREGA, the Right to Information Act, and the historic Indo-US Civil Nuclear Agreement. Despite facing criticism over corruption scandals, his tenure elevated India to unprecedented economic growth.

Singh was admitted to AIIMS Delhi on December 26 after a sudden loss of consciousness and passed away the same evening. A 7-day national mourning period has been announced to honor his contributions. Leaders across the nation, including President Droupadi Murmu and Prime Minister Narendra Modi, have expressed their condolences.

Born in Gah, Punjab (now Pakistan), Singh’s journey from academia to policymaking was exemplary. His legacy as a transformative leader continues to inspire India’s economic and political landscape.
